04 McGunnigle Shack owners have a deep love for the infamous ‘Kaufmann Desert House‘ (by Richard Neutra architect) in Palm Springs and three very active rug rats. They asked for a mid-century inspired shack that adapts as their family grows – including an American Diner styled breakfast breakout area for the family to commune and connect at every morning.
Its our first metro shack!
Geoff Longwood Constructions has really done an amazing job with 04 McGunnigle Shack and was a complete pleasure to work with. Geoff truly appreciates architecture (and as fate would have it, a total Kaufmann House fan and Palm Springs travel junky) and the effort involved to create a good outcome. He maintained an impressive attention to detail, painstakingly working details to stay true to the intention of the design from beginning to end.
Design is nothing without a good builder and visa versa, you need both to create a good outcome and this is where the spirit of collaboration works its magic, creating a strong and supportive network of professionals who respect each others skills and simply enjoy working together to do good work.

how much does it cost to build a house in 2025?
BMT Quantity Surveyors in their current ‘Construction Cost Table’ (sourced 8/3/ 2025),
the average price per m2 (GFA) for an ‘architecturally designed executive residence’ in Sydney is stated at,
$4,573 m2 (incl GST) for a ‘Low’ level of finish
$5,854 m2 (incl GST) for a ‘Medium’ level of finish
$8,188 m2 (incl GST) for a ‘High’ level of finish,
in addtion, for Perth they apply a regional variation of 98% – 120% to these rates!
As you can see in the photo’s, there’s nothing ‘Low’ or basic about this mi shack’s level of finish,
(or any mi shack for that matter).
It is generally a ‘Medium’ level of finish with some ‘High’ level of finish elements!
FEES.
In Australia, typical architectural fees are generally between 8% and 15% of the total final construction cost.
mi shack design fees start from 8% (+GST) of the total final construction cost.*
